Two Sisters Take Pageant Titles
Sarah Temple (19) and Veronica Temple (14), daughters of Vic & Laura Temple of Eagle River, were elated when they were both selected at the December 1st annual Miss Chugiak-Eagle River/Miss Birchwood pageant. Sarah was crowned 2008 Miss Chugiak-Eagle River, and Veronica crowned Miss Chugiak-Eagle River Outstanding Teen.
Sarah's platform is "Empowering Grandfamilies". Grandfamilies are grandparents who are the primary caregivers of one or more grandchildren. This is a rapidly growing portion of the Alaskan family demographic and they have their own unique needs and challenges. Sarah is overseeing the sponsorship of 12 Grandfamilies for Christmas through her employer, Keller-Williams. Sarah is a freshman at UAA.
Veronica is a freshman with Family Partnership Charter School. Her platform, "Autism Awareness", is in honor of her siblings with autistic spectrum disorders. She is looking forward to opportunities for promoting awareness of careers available in habilitative therapies, educational & social supports, and medical research. Veronica will spend this coming year promoting autism awareness within our community, looking for opportunities in schools, churches & elsewhere to promote awareness that autism is a neurological disorder that affects 1 in every 152 children born, and is increasing at a rate of 10-17% per year.
